An August Artist Welcome to John B. Beatty and Anne Primeau

Each month the SHS features different artists. Come by to view this amazing work. A portion of all sales supports the work of the Steveston Historical Society. Alongside feature displays by John Beatty and Anne Primeau, there will also be postcards, art cards, and stickers available for purchase by Sarah Glen and Roxsane Tanner.


August Pop-Up Artists are John B. Beatty and Anne Primeau. Anne's oil paintings are featured: rooster, fawn, still lifes and landscapes. John B. Beatty stands next to his painting of the cannery and there is also a painting of the Olympic Oval featured.

John Beatty

We are thrilled to welcome back West Coast artist and Richmond resident John B. Beatty. John started his painting career in 1960 as has now completed over 1000 acrylic and oil paintings inspired primarily from life on the West Coast and while traveling.

John is an active member of the Men in Hats art group as well as the Richmond Artists Guild, participating in Plein Air and studio outings throughout the year.

Anne Primeau

In 1986, Anne Primeau bought a one-way ticket and moved from her home in Ontario to BC. Here, sure pursued a career in Critical Care Nursing followed by a number of successful years in the private sector. With the support of her husband, Anne embarked on a new journey of self-discovery that lead her back to her artistic passion. She is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Richmond Artist Guild and Men in Hats.

“Painting is an endless learning process that I find very fulfilling. The creative process of translating my vision onto a two-dimensional surface in order to evoke a sense of place and time brings me joy”.

This self-guided walking tour will take approximately 90 minutes to complete. Please take care when crossing busy streets. The tour is wheelchair-accessible, although some of the buildings listed may not be.

Summer Sun means Artist Fun! Meet June’s Pop-Up Artists at the Steveston Museum and Post Office

June Pop-Up Artists are Roxsane Tanner and Betsy Randel. There is a picture of Roxsane's watercolour of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery and a photo of a mug with her watercolour of the Steveston Museum on it. There are also pictures of Betsy's watercolour paintings on the display wall.

Roxsane Tanner

Roxsane Tanner is a self-taught multi-media artist who lives in Steveston, BC. Roxsane works with a variety of platforms/mediums including original watercolour painting, metalsmith, working with silver, gold and copper.

While capturing photos of the sites of Steveston on her morning walks, Roxsane brings these photos to life in her original watercolour works. Whether you’re a local or visiting Steveston for the very first time you can truly see through Roxsane’s’ paintings how she has captured the iconic sites of Steveston’s unique personality and quaintness.

Betsy Randel

Betsy Randel is a local Steveston artist and writer who enjoy celebrating the simplicity and beauty of nature in watercolour. She paints florals and landscapes, many of local gardens and Steveston surroundings.

Betsy is primarily a self-taught artist but has a certificate in Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and has taken classes through the Riverside Arts Circle and Richmond Artist Guild. Originals, prints and greeting cards are available.

Step back in time this summer in Steveston! Join us for Steveston Alive! Walking Tour Vignettes – a unique theatre-meets-history experience where costumed interpreters bring the past to life right on the streets of Steveston Village. Presented by the Steveston Historical Society.

Walk the boardwalks, meet characters from the early 1900s, and see history come alive before your eyes.
