March Pop-Up Artists are Denise & Jeremy Nichol, Art Lodge, and Suzanne Basnett. There is a mix of art on sale: paintings, pottery and found object (rocks, beach glass, shells).

Denise & Jeremy Nichol

We are excited to welcome back mother and son visual artists, Denise and Jeremy Nichol. Their distinctive mixed-media artwork combines oil and acrylic painting with 3D creations featuring beach glass.

Jeremy Nichol, a West Coast-based artist, has been dedicated to expanding his artistic vision. His work spans a wide range of interests, from historical to contemporary, and he utilizes various mediums such as oil, gouache, egg tempera, and pen.

Denise Nichol studied visual arts at the University of Regina. She is a self-taught painter whose work is influenced by her love of travel, nature, and the diverse flavours of different cultures. An avid beachcomber and collector of beach glass, Denise uses her art to communicate and share the beauty of nature with others, exploring a wide range of subject matter.

Art Lodge

I’ve lived in the lower mainland my entire life. For a number of years I worked at a print shop on River road in Richmond. My wife of 38 years, worked in Federal Employment Programs helping Steveston fishermen adapt to changes in the industry. I’m a member of the Richmond Arts Coalition.

I started creating 3D designs on the beach using driftwood, sea glass and beach rock. It was part of a morning meditation practice. When a local artist discovered my work she encouraged me to take them home and mount them. I’ve had success at craft fairs, online and at a local boutique and galley. Suzanne Basnett

I am a local Richmond resident and have been working with clay since 2012 when I took my first wheel throwing class. Two years later I set up my home studio in a shed in my backyard in Steveston. My pots are primarily thrown on the wheel, but lately I have been exploring slab building and combining the two processes.

I strive to make pots both functional and beautiful to be used and enjoyed every day.

I am a member of and very active with Richmond Potters Club, Fraser Valley Potters Guild and Potters Guild of BC.

Welcome to our February Artists! New this month – Reach to Teach Art Installation

February Artists are C.C Chen and the Reach to Teach Program. There is a picture of the Reach to Teach Program's installation featuring a jungle scene in the style of Henri Rousseau. There are some pictures of Chen's work featuring emotional and spiritual depictions of her world.

C.C Chen

C.C Chen is a passionate and enthusiastic Richmond artist whose creations are inspired by her inner world. Her works are more than just paintings; they are stories, emotions and spiritual expressions.

Her fluid paintings uniquely capture the vastness of the sky, the depth of the ocean, the mystery of the stars and the vitality of the forest. Through her work, she hopes to convey messages of love, peace and joy, making art a bridge that connects the human soul with the world around it.

Reach to Teach Art Installation

The Arts Conservatory & Renaissance Academy of Learning (Steveston) proudly presents another creative student-led installation through their “Reach to Teach” program.

Collaborating with students from James Whiteside Elementary School the art installation is inspired by the work of 19th Century painter Henri Rousseau, a French post-impressionist painter in the Naive or Primitive manner, most well known for his jungle scenes.

Happy New Year! And Welcome to our New Pop-Up Artists for January

A new year means new feature artists in the pop-up artist space at the Steveston Museum and Post Office. This month we welcome Patti Tan and Tom Taylor.

January Pop-Up Artists are Tom Taylor and Pattie Tan. There is a Read More button accompanied by paintings of both artists. The paintings are of a sailboat, tree forest scene, field of sunflowers, and a wave crashing on the beach.

Patti Tan

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Patti Tan ended up working in the corporate world and continued to pursue her enthusiasm for art in her spare time. She has an art studio in her home and dabbled in gouache, watercolours, acrylics and soft pastels. She enjoys creating with soft pastels the most and it has now become her passion. She is a fan of Impressionism and is inspired by the work of Claude Monet and Edvard Degas. Patti is a Richmond resident of 43 years and enjoys contributing to her community through her love of art.

Tom Taylor

We welcome Tom back to show in the pop up space for the month of January. Tom is a Richmond resident that paints with the local art group “Men in Hats”. Tom’s passion for art was fuelled at a young age while living in Northern BC. During Tom’s business career he continued painting and drawing and now focuses the majority of his time to art. He works mainly in acrylics, gouache, watercolour and pencil. Tom has won numerous awards for his painting and drawings as well as juried selections in BC arts competitions.
