LEGO – Steveston Tram

Bring the Sockeye Special home. This 341-piece kit recreates Tram Car 1220, the interurban streetcar that ran between Vancouver and Steveston. It uses genuine LEGO elements and includes full building instructions.

For more than fifty years, interurban trams carried cannery workers, fishers, residents and canned salmon between Steveston and the city. The BC Electric Railway ran the line from 1905. Tram Car 1220 was built in 1912 by the St. Louis Car Company and seated 64 passengers. The last interurban ran between Marpole and Steveston on February 28, 1958. Car 1220 is one of only seven BC Electric interurban cars still in existence. Fully restored, it now sits on its original tracks in the Steveston Tram building at 4011 Moncton Street, a short walk from the Steveston Museum.

The kit was designed by Peter Grant, a Steveston resident known locally as Richmond’s “Lego Man.” The City of Richmond commissioned Peter to build the tram and its barn in bricks, and his models have been a fixture of the tram’s winter displays. Peter assembles each kit himself in small batches. Read more about Peter and his work: https://historicsteveston.ca/news/peter-grant-lego/
