Change in Leadership: Steveston Historical Society Names Rachel Meloche as Next Executive Director
RICHMOND. BC – On August 1, Rachel Meloche will become executive director of the Steveston Historical Society. Meloche will succeed Sarah Glen, who was appointed as the Society’s first executive director in 2015.
“Sarah was our first ED and has exceeded our expectations!” Says Linda Barnes, Chair of the Steveston Historical Society Board of Directors. “Under her stewardship, programs such as the successful Walking Tour Vignettes and Songs in the Snow, have cemented partnerships with many groups. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and imagination have been tremendous assets – she will be missed but we look forward to keeping her on as a volunteer.”
Meloche brings a great passion for history, especially Steveston’s, to the role – she draws upon her experience at local heritage sites: Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, and the Steveston Museum.
“I’m very excited to be joining the SHS.” Says Rachel Meloche. “Steveston has such a unique and important history, and I can’t wait to work with the Board of Directors and the rest of the SHS team, as well as other local organizations, as we preserve and present its story. We have some great programming coming up, and I’m thrilled to be carrying on Sarah’s excellent work.”
As part of this exciting time of transition, the SHS Board is seeking new general members as well as possible Board recruits. Become a member, make new friends and help keep Steveston a wonderful place to live. Check the membership section of this website or contact info@historicsteveston.ca for more information.
