Steveston Post Office to remain open for business in historic Steveston Museum

Richmond, BC – The Canada Post office in Steveston’s Museum in the heart of Steveston Village has been a popular neighbourhood stop for both locals and visitors for over 40 years. And with a unique three-party agreement, the post office will continue to stay open for business.

Sharing the space in this 1905 building with Tourism Richmond’s Visitor Centre and the Steveston Museum, the Post Office was at risk of closing. An agreement between the City of Richmond, Steveston Historical Society and Tourism Richmond now enables the Steveston Historical Society to operate the post office as of May 1, 2018.

“By working together with the Society and Tourism Richmond, we found a unique solution to sustain the post office in one of Steveston’s most treasured historic buildings,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “This landmark offers something for everyone – an interesting combination of service, history and heritage in what was Steveston’s first bank.”

“Keeping the historic Steveston Post Office operational as an information hub in the centre of the village is important to the Society,” Steveston Historical Society Chair Linda Barnes says. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the City and Tourism Richmond to welcome both visitors and locals.”

“We are pleased with this arrangement,” said Bruce Okabe, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Richmond. “The new agreement allows for the Steveston Historical Society to extend its contract with Canada Post and assume daily operations alongside our destination experts who provide guests from around the world with services in our Visitor Centre within the Steveston Museum.”

The public is encouraged to visit the Steveston Museum, Steveston Post Office and Tourism Richmond Visitor Centre during the following hours: Mondays to Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m.
